PostTassie 'Prove It To The AFL'

Hawthorn's new deal, and the North Melbourne plan to play in Tasmania has many saying “Tasmania's AFL Push is dead in the water,” It's hard to disagree with that, until you take into account that Greater Western Sydney, and Gold Coast are going to need their time to stand on their own two feet.

It would be a mistake for the AFL to rush another new side, or two sides into the AFL, while Greater Western Sydney, and Gold Coast are so new. Tasmanians have to realise that, while they think they are not going to get a side soon, they have the chance now to show the AFL why they deserve a side.

The Tasmanian State League which is only in it's third season after returning, needs time to stand on it's own two feet. The State government, and the governing body AFL Tasmania needs to make sure that rather than trying to kill off a side that's struggling, find a way to save them.

Devonport has been in financial trouble over the summer, it looked like they were going to ease to exist this saw a few players up and leave and find new homes. They will participate in the State League in 2011, a future after that is uncertain.

Hostilities between the South and North will need to ease as well, and a united front for all Tasmanians is a must. Tasmanians needs to show why they want a Tasmanian side by not bickering, but going out and supporting North Melbourne, and Hawthorn, and the Tasmanian State League.

But not only that the Government needs to build a new stadium, it's a must, it's always been a must, they have upgraded both Aurora, and Bellerive, but they are still not going to be able to house a massive AFL Crowd that teams like the Pies, Blues, or Bombers would bring.

The State is growing, even the businesses are growing with Eastlands Shopping Centre soon to be a massive shopping complex, Cambridge down near the airport has its own shopping strip, but still no multi-purpose stadium

You can take the Glenorchy Stadium design, and build that anywhere in the state, there is a sports complex being built in Kingston, Lauderadle Oval is getting an upgrade, there is a lot of land down Cambridge for a stadium, or even a new showgrounds.

Thus freeing up the Elwick Showgrounds to be turned into a multi-purpose stadium, which could see football games, cricket games, rugby games, and a Tasmanian AFL side. If Hawthorn wish to stay in Tasmania, another multi-purpose stadium could be made in the North as well.

The Government could just expand Aurora Stadium, they have the room, grab a sponsor to help with building costs, and operating costs, and then watch as Tasmania gets sporting events, and become apart of the national sports obsession.

People are starting to see that the Government has held back the Tasmanian AFL side, and now they are wanting answers, they are wanting something done. But first things first, unite the state behind this. You could almost say that every time there is a discussion about sports, and such in this state, there is a civil war of words between the North and South.

A rivalry in sports is fine, but when you see it dividing a state in politics, sports, and everything else, isn't that going way too far? The TFL would play an intrastate game every year, that was what this should only be a game. A united state, fighting for one thing, surely enough to see Tasmania's dream of an AFL side a reality?
