PostCrouch hopeful of playing finals

Glenorchy's captain Jesse Crouch is hopeful that his season is not yet over, the veteran Magpie injured his arterial cruciate ligament during the Pies hard fought win against the Bombers last weekend at KGV that clinched a place in the 2010 Finals for Glenorchy.

Crouch will have his knee examined during the week, and will wait and see if wearing a brace on the injured knee will assist him during the Magpies' finals campaign, should Crouch require surgery on his knee, his season is over.

With the win today Glenorchy has managed to finish top 4 in a season where they were close to missing out on finals, and a season that saw injury, poor form, and losing streaks. But the young Magpies are starting to soar high after their 12 point win over arch rival North Hobart.

Glenorchy has had the wood on North Hobart since the inception of the new Tasmanian State League, and have no lost to the Demons since their finals encounter in 2008 at KGV Oval.

The Magpies' strangle hold on the Demons began Grand Final Day when the Magpies walked away with the final Premier League Premiership back in 2008, since then the misery that the Demons inflicted on the Magpies throughout the 1990s has been reversed.

With Glenorchy's win today they have set up a date with fellow Magpie side Devonport next weekend at Devonport Oval. The 2nd Qualifying Final seemed like an impossible dream for this side, this season.

Since the 93 point shock loss to the Tigers, the Magpies have managed to show the fight that has gotten them to where they are now, with the loses of veteran captain Shane Piuselli over summer, veteran defender Ben Curley and ruckman Andrew Nash.

The Magpies also lost young gun Ryan Harwood to the AFL when he was drafted by Brisbane back in November last year in the National Draft. Injuries have been a hindrance to this young side, but they have shown a lot of fight in them.

It has not been all doom and gloom at Anfield Street, Glenorchy's young guns Nathan Matthews, Jaye Bowden, Brayden Webb, Brayden Pace, Matt Dilger, and Jimmy Webster have been a revelation for the Pies. Jade Hodge has been likened to former great defender of the club Roland Curley.

Hodge came back to Tasmania via Riverina Football League club Leeton-Whitton he was previously a player with New Norfolk before he headed up there with a couple of other former Tasmanians.

Glenorchy also welcomed back Daniel Fewkes from injury, and brought in Michael Darcy, the great full forward from down Cygnet. Glenorchy may not be a premiership contender, but things are bright there at KGV Oval.

Daniel Muit returned from injury for the Pies this week, Brayden Webb came in for Crouch and the 17 year old picked up 27 possessions, a feat he has managed to do throughout 2010. Next season though the Magpies will hope to see Shayne Moles and Jesse Crouch back in the side.
